about 5 days ago i set off in the van on a saturday late morning with the rest of the boys aswell as chris and stu to make our way to liverpool to go to you me at six's show as a part of sound city festival.
must've left about 12 (after being told i would get picked up at 10) and made the first leg of our journey to a service station just off the m42 near birmingham to pick up rosie jennings.
Rosie is a friend of ours we met on the good to go tour with we are the ocean and she is a joker. As soon as i saw her she told me a story about how just before she was leaving, some dude knocked on her door and asked to use her toilet, and after her mother letting the guy in he goes to the toilet, takes a massive poo and leaves the house with the god awful smell. i found it hilarious.
we then drove on to liverpool and dropped the van at chris', got changed, and walked to the academy. As soon as we got there we met up with nyla, and bobby and adam came out and greeted us with AAA's which was unexpected as i only thought we had guestlist to watch the show, after this lovely turn of events we then spent most of our evening in the dressing room just hanging out with the boys, TIG played aswell and they were insane. i officially adore casey, who kept me in a sea of cider and beer he didnt want to drink, so i managed to get quite ruined which was awesome.
Watched you me at six and they were awesome as always, the night turns into a bit of a blur from here on until we leave, but when we finally do about 5 minutes before we're out of liverpool we get pulled over by the police, which wouldnt be so bad except for the fact that the van is 1 person over capacity (which i hear is pretty illegal) and we were rolling a joint at the time (also pretty illegal so im told). Tom was luckily absolutely fucked so he was passed out in the bunk, and managed to hide away from the police the entire time! extremely good effort. Bit of a prang out for nothing though as they only pulled us over because we hadnt changed the registration for the van or something, either way we got away scot free and made our way to steffen, bobby and bradleys place in leeds.
That night i slept in bradleys bed who was away on tour at the time, it was really comfy and it was ncie seeing his 3 rats again.
the next morning was the morning of slam dunk, and the vibe was pretty exciting, i had a curry pot noodle for breakfast, it was the worst decision i've ever made.
Things were pretty hectic from then on until after we played, alot of running around trying to sort out everything making sure there were no problems during the set, adam (our old driver/roadie/AND ex drummer) who was working with YMAS managed to come down just before our set and took care of our stage area for us, which was really nice of him especially seieng as he was already working for another band, i always feel really safe and care free about things when he's around.
The stage we were playing is alot bigger than i remember, and i watch young guns while im warming up, kind of handy as i know alot fo the words to thier songs so i had a good old sing along which actually put my voice in pretty good shape (i'm always worried about how it's going to sound, i smoke too much).
Young guns played a blinder of a set, it's always hard trying to get the crowd rowdy when you're the first band on but gus did a great job as front man, he always does everytime.
Then it was our time, and it was probably the first time i've been nervous about a show in around a year and a half, to the point of shaking aswell, it freaked me out. As soon as i stepped on stage all of that was set aside and we managed to play probably one of the most enjoyable sets ive ever played as being a part of all forgotten. the room absolutely packed out which was an incredible surprise, the crowd was amazing, some dude crowd surfed which is a first, and loadds of kids were going crazy. considering we only line checked the sound on stage and in front of house was incredible (we had an old friend of ours called ben doing it for us, he is amazing) played an awesome set, spent the next half an hour loading out into the van, then spent the rest of my evening wandeirng around the massive 5000 cap venue trying to find people in a drunken state (i got straight on a couple of thirst quenchers when all my work was done), i remember watching ymas, canterbury, we the kings, kigh, wato, but the rest of my time was just spent hanging out, one of the best days ever!
i know there was an after party, but tbh i dont really remember it, the rest of my time in the venue is a complete blur until about 3am when we decide to make the 20 minute walk to our friend guy's flat (it's not his, its his dad's). the 20 minute walk took us an hour because of our state, and chris stole the little display thing in mcdonalds where they keep donuts, muffins and brownies, best steal ever.
i wake up and spend most of my morning absolutely hanging on the balcony, throwing water and passers by 10 stories below, it was fun.
Before we left we saw canterbury and ended up going to wetherspoons for breakfast and to catch up on our eventful eventful evenings, i love those boys, some of the best friends i've ever made on the road.
took us 6 hours to get home, pretty painful, pretty sure i slept most of the way. form then on there's nothing much to report, but i had an incredible 48 hours.
thank you to everyone that was a part of it!
